How will NET scores be determined? NET scores are determined by subtracting the “team” index from the team’s final score. All team members must have an established index through the USGA, golf membership, or golf association. If any team member does not have an established index, that team is not eligible for the NET division, and will only compete in the GROSS division. Players will be required to show proof of an established index. How will teams determine their “team” index? If all team members have an established index, their “team” index is determined by adding their indexes together, then dividing by 2. Indexes will then be rounded to the nearest whole number (example: 5.5 goes to 6, 5.4 goes to 5). IMPORTANT: Teammates cannot be separated by more than a 10 index. An example is as follows: Player index: Joe (5) and Bill (10) The maximum "team" index that will be used in an event is 18. What determines an established index? Recognized USGA Handicap Index — A recognized USGA Handicap Index is an index that is derived from a recognized golf facility, golf association or golf club which issues and maintains USGA Handicap Indexes in full accordance with the USGA Handicap System and SET Scramble Handicap Index guidelines. Recognized Golf Facility — A Recognized Golf Facility shall refer to a golf facility which has at least nine holes, issues and maintains USGA Handicap Indexes in full accordance with the USGA Handicap System guidelines, and is approved by the SET Scramble. Recognized Golf Association — A Recognized Golf Association shall refer to an organization of golf clubs governed by amateur golfers, operated under by laws and formed for the purpose of conducting competitions for amateur golfers, and otherwise promoting the best interest and conserving the true spirit of the game of golf in a district, region, or state. Recognized Golf Club – A Recognized Golf Club shall refer to an organization of at least ten individual members that operates under by laws with committees to supervise golf activities, provide peer review and maintain the integrity of the USGA Handicap System. How will player indexes be used during Local Qualifying and the National Championships?
Local Qualifying: Amateurs must use their current USGA Handicap Index revision that is in effect at least ten (10) days prior to their SET Scramble Local Qualifying. For example, if the tournament date is held on July 15th, the revision in effecton July 5th or closest to, but no later than July 5th, would be used. An index is not valid until it appears on an official handicap index revision. State Championships: Amateurs will use their Local Qualifying index throughout the State Championships UNLESS their index improves by 2.0 points or more by the time of the State Championships. In which case, they will use their current (improved) index at the State Championships. |
